Jolt for BJP in One Seat, Solace in Another

The Bharatiya Janata Party received a jolt of sorts as it lost one of its seats in legislature to rival Congress even as it barely managed to retain another one. The party faced the music in the just concluded by-poll counting for which took place on Thursday (March 2). 

Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar emerged winner in the Kasba Assembly seat in Pune city which is considered a BJP bastion. Dhangekar, tipped to win the seat in a fierce contest, was declared winner after 20 rounds of counting. The by-poll in the Kasba Peth and Chinchwad constituencies was occasioned due to the demise of Mukta Tilak and Lakshman Jagtap, both of BJP. 

BJP had fielded Heman Rasane against Dhangekar, both of whom were members of Pune Municipal Corporation. Rasane's choise had triggered a wave of discussion in the populace and reportedly led to the dissatisfaction among a lot of BJP workers. There was even talk of discontent along caste lines.

Kasba Peth, the centrer of Pune city, is looked upon as the citadel of Brahmins. Both Girish Bapat, who represented Kasba Peth five times in legislature and once in parliament, as well as Mukta Tilak were Brahmins. Rasane is not. So when his annoucement as the candidate, it was logical for the talk of injustice to Brahmins to crop up. It indeed cropped up but did not get as mileage as the BJP's opposition parties wished. 

What actually turned against Rasane was his disconnect with the voters and his upmanship. Dhangekar stood in full contrast to him. He was accessible, he was helpful and he was fighting. He was also reinforced by might of three parties – Congress, which he joined a few years ago; Nationalist Congress Party, with which Congress has an alliance and Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena, which is considerably weakened but still is a force to reckon with.  

In another poll, BJP candidate Ashwini Jagtap won the Chinchwad seat, held by her husband Lakshman, with a lead of over 36,000 votes. She defeated her nearest rival Nana Kate of NCP while Independent candidate Rahul Kalate trailed far behind.

The Kasba Peth and Chinchwad assembly went to polls on February 26 with an average turnout recorded of around 50 per cent. This was the first election after the formation of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena and BJP government in the State in place of the Uddhav Thackeray government.

This was the slogan given by the Bharatiya Janata Party sometime in the fast and the slogan seems to be successful. It has lived up to its words. in the meantime, the slogan no longer remained confined to BJP and become a pronouncation all over the the country. On this backdrop, when the Defense Minister Rajnath Singh announced two days ago that India would regain the Pakista Occupied Kashmir (POK), the entire nation is ready to believe it.

When the leadership of any country or state is strong, there is hardly anything impossible. the only thing required is the willpower for good actions. That is why the present government could take a decision like abrogation of Article 370. Now, it is said that Uniform Civil Code is on government’s agenda next. however, on thing is sure – that this government has succeeded in sending the message to all, including our neighboring enemy countries, that we are strong.

When a country wants to progress, it is very important to have an environment of peace and harmony within the country and in the border areas of the country as well as in the neighboring countries. this means that peace can be established in the Indian subcontinent only when the conduct of the neighboring countries is good and there are no malices in their minds and that all countries in those parts start dealing with each other with respect. Then, it will not take long for all of them to develop. But for a country like Pakistan there is neither any development nor any goal where hatred and only hatred for India is taught. Every politcian and ruler goes on to feed terrorism and incite hatred against India. The land that acts as a breeding ground for this hatred is Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. the Pakistan aims to swallow the land of India with terrorism and PoK acts as a terror hub to carry out operations against India. India has endured this for decades because this country lacked a a strong leadership.

Our neighboring countries, namely  Pakistan and China are seen to be treating us like a staunch enemy. No one had tried to destroy them. Although Kashmir is our integral part, Pakistan always has an eye on it and its politicians are constantly trying to destabilize the situation in J&K. People are being tortured and forced to convert or commit acts of terrorism against India in PoK. All the rights of the citizens are being violated by Pakistan.

Pakistan is constantly trying to infiltrate our Kashmir and cause disruptive activities there. For this, the youths are incited and forced to commit terrorist acts. this is a long followed policy of Pakistan. PoK has also become a big base of terrorism. However, since 2014, when Narendra Modi became the prime minister in the country with a regime change, there has been a major setback to Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Pakistan has been in trouble ever since Article 370 was in Kashmir was aborogated. Article 370 was revoked in August 2019 and the discrimination against the people in the state seems to have come to an end after the abrogation of Article 370. 

Since the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, many development works are going on in these regions. The issue of PoK has been at the center of discussion for the past several years. Incidently, the Parliament of India passed a resolution regarding the return of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir to India in the year 1994,, but it has not materialized yet.

In this context, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has made a big statement on occasion of the Valor Day in Jammu and Kashmir. Rajnath Singh said that PoK will come to India soon. Rajnath has given this warning to Pakistan in the 'Shaurya Diwas' program in Jammu and Kashmir. He also presented India’s stand on some other points as well. The way India has started development works in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, the sand has started shifting under Pakistan's feet. We have emphasized on the issue of development, while Pakistan is constantly fueling terrorism, but now the defense minister's statement to regain Gilgit and Baltistan will definitely raise the alarm in Pakistan. But it is important to be more vigilant considering the possibility of being re-targeted by them. Defense Minister has given a stern warning that Pakistan will have to suffer the consequences saying that India's mission will be completed only after the Gilgit and Baltistan regions of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir are returned to India from Pakistan.

 It is possible for India. Because Modi is there and when Modi is there, everything is possible. 

The Meek Will Not- Inherit the Earth

In face of the continuous incursion by China in the Ladakh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a strong message to the devious neighbor. While making a surprise visit to the brave Jawans stationed on the border, PM Modi underlined the motto of new India that might is right. Invoking a Sanskrit line, PM Modi said that the earth belongs to the brave. This will be very hard to swallow for the Chinese side which is habituated to a meek surrender from India since last 50 years.

PM Modi reached Leh early this morning in a surprise visit. Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and Army Chief MM Naravane also accompanied the PM on his day long visit to Leh. The Prime Minister was briefed by Personnel of the Army, Air Force and ITBP at a forward position in Nimu amid ongoing tension with China.

Located at 11,000 feet, the region is among the world's toughest terrains, surrounded by the Zanskar range and located on the banks of the river Indus. The purpose of- prime Minister's visit is undoubtedly to boost the morale of soldiers. PM Modi landed in Leh without any prior information. This visit came in the wake of of burning of 59 mobile apps belonging to China by the Indian government and subsequently Modi himself dropping out of the popular service Weibo. 

PM Narendra Modi 's visit definitely sends a strong signal across the border about preparedness.Inspired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to go “vocal for local”, more people are now preferring local products. They have also started opting for the mobile apps developed by the Indian professionals over the Chinese apps. 

The Prime Minister met the top leadership of the Indian Army and later interacted with personnel of the Army, Air Force and ITBP. In this quintessential style, PM Modi in front of the jawans injured in the the hand combat with their Chinese counterparts 2 weeks ago. PM commended  the valour of our Armed Forces, stating that their courage and devotion to Mother India is unparalleled. When he stated that Indians can go about their lives peacefully because they know that our Armed Forces are standing firm, protecting the nation, he was on point.

Modi's demeanor shows that India will not bow down before China which is looking to save its on face on the background of Corona virus. The entire world is looking at China with suspicion of spreading Corona virus deliberately and those ruling the country are confused as to how to to save their prestige. By engaging with India militarily, China tried to steal the world's attention from the calamity of Covid-19 pandemic and instead draw it to warlike situation at the Indian border.

However, the game plan fizzled out. The enemies of India have seen the fire and fury of our forces, as PM Modi put it succinctly.

All in all, PM Modi give a timely and required message that india won't leave any stone unturned in its attempt to protect its borders. Veerbhogya Vasundhara - the Sanskrit proverb that Modi uttered was the strongest statement on this front. The earth belongs to the brave and not the meek. It is clear assurance that whatever happened in Galwan Valley will not be buried in history books as just another scuffle, but will be marked as a turning point in the relations of the two countries. 

किमान साधूंचे तरी श्राप घेऊ नका

गोष्ट आहे ९ नोव्हेंबर १९६६ ची. देशभरातील साधू आणि संत दिल्लीतील संसद भवनाबाहेर जमले होते. ब्रिटिश काळापासून चालू असलेली गोहत्येची प्रथा बंद व्हावी अशी त्यांची मागणी होती. तशी ही मागणी जुनीच होती. परंतु 'विज्ञान'वादाचा टेंभा मिरवणाऱ्या नेहरूंच्या काळात ही मागणी पूर्ण होणे शक्यच नव्हते. मात्र फेब्रुवारी महिन्यात सत्तेवर आलेल्या इंदिरा गांधी यांनी गोवधबंदीचा कायदा करण्याचे वचन देऊनच सत्ता हातात घेतली होती. त्यामुळे त्यांच्याकडून न्याय मिळेल अशी साधूंचा अपेक्षा होती. 

सत्तेवर आल्यानंतर मात्र इंदिराजींनी या मागणीला वाटाण्याच्या अक्षता लावल्या. त्यामुळे साधू समाज संतप्त झाला होता. संसदेचे अधिवेशन सुरु होते. त्यामुळे सगळे साधू तिथे जमा झाले होते. हा कायदा झाला नाही तर संसदेला घेराव घालण्याचा इशारा त्यांनी दिला होता. या साधूंचे नेतृत्व करत होते करपात्री महाराज. प्रत्यक्षात इंदिराजींच्या आदेशावरून या साधूंवर गोळ्या झाडण्यात आल्या. त्यात अनेक साधू मारले गेले (सरकारी आकडा ८) तर शेकडो जखमी झाले. संसद भवानाबाहेरचा रस्ता जखमी साधू आणि मृतदेहांनी भरून गेला होता. हा प्रकार इतका भयंकर होता, की गृहमंत्री गुलजारीलाल नंदा यांनी राजीनामा दिला. 

त्या दिवशी तिथी होती गोपाष्टमी. या दिवशी गाईंची पूजा करण्यात येते.

त्या साधूंचे मृतदेह उचलता उचलता करपात्री महाराजांनी इंदिरा गांधींना शाप दिला, "या साधूंची शरीरे जशी छिन्नविछिन्न झाली तसाच तुझा होईल. तुझा निर्वंश होईल आणि तो गोपाष्टमीलाच होईल." त्यानंतर १४ वर्षांनी संजय गांधीचा अपघाती मृत्यू झाला. तिथी होती दशमीची. त्यानंतर चार वर्षांनी खुद्द इंदिराजींची हत्या झाली. त्यादिवशी तिथी होती गोपाष्टमी. नंतर सात वर्षांनी राजीव गांधी यांची हत्या झाली. त्याही दिवशी तिथी होती अष्टमीची. करपात्री महाराज म्हणाले तसंच घडलं - संजय गांधी, इंदिरा गांधी आणि राजीव गांधी या तिघांचेही मृतदेह छिन्नविछिन्न अवस्थेतच होते. विमान अपघातात संजय गांधी गेले, इंदिराजींच्या शरीराची चाळणी झाली आणि बॉम्बस्फोटात राजीवजींच्या शरीराचे शतशः तुकडे झाले. 

हे सगळं सांगण्याचं कारण म्हणजे काल उघडकीला आलेली महंतांच्या हत्येची घटना. दोन साधू आणि त्यांच्या ड्रायव्हरला सुमारे 100-200 लोकांनी जीवे मारल्याची घटना काही दिवसांपूर्वी पालघरमध्ये घडली होती. या मारहाणीचा व्हिडिओ रविवारी सोशल मीडियावर व्हायरल झाला. गुरुवारी रात्री गडचिंचले येथे ही घटना घडली. आणखी भयानक म्हणजे खुद्द पोलिसांनीच या साधूंना जमावाच्या ताब्यात दिलेले दिसते. कोरोनाच्या संकटाच्या हाताळणीमुळे आधीच वस्त्रहरण झालेल्या महाराष्ट्र सरकारवर यामुळे टिकेचा पुन्हा मारा झाला तर नवल नाही. 

भाजपला टांग मारून उध्दव ठाकरे यांनी सत्ता हस्तगत केली खरी, पण सत्ता राबवायची कशी यावरून त्यांची गोची झालेली साफ दिसते. गोएथेच्या 'फाउस्ट'मध्ये कथानायक ज्याप्रमाणे आपला आत्मा विकायला काढतो, तशी काहीशी गत ठाकरे व शिवसेनेची झालेली दिसते. फाउस्ट अत्यंत हुशार असतो, परंतु स्वतःच्या जीवनाबद्दल तो असमाधानी असतो. मग तो सैतानाशी समझोता करतो आणि स्वतःचा आत्मा विकतो. शिवसेनेने तेच केलेलं दिसतंय. 

ख्रिस्ती प्रसारक काँग्रेस आणि जेहादी राष्ट्रवादी काँग्रेसची भूते त्यांना हवं ते करत आहेत. राज्याच्या सत्तेच्या बदल्यात उद्धवनी त्यांना मोकळे रान दिल्यासारखं दिसतंय. आधीच उल्हास त्यात फाल्गुन मास या न्यायाने कोरोनाचं संकट येऊन कोसळलं. राज्याचा कारभार कसा चालवावा हा वेगळा प्रश्न. त्यात मत मतांतरे होण्याची शक्यता भरपूर. त्यामुळे त्यात जायला नको. पण किमान माणसाच्या जीवाची तरी शाश्वती मिळावी, त्यात कुठल्या मानवी आगळीकीमुळे विघ्न येता कामा नये...इतकी अपेक्षा करणं फारसे वावगे म्हणता येणार नाही. दुर्दैवाने हीच शाश्वती आज राहिलेली नाही. शाश्वती जाऊ द्या, मुळात सरकारचीच भीती वाटायला लागलीय. सरकारचे मंत्रीच गुंडाचा डबल रोल करतायत. दिवसाढवळ्या लोकांना उचलून नेले जातेय, साधूंना पोलीस स्वतःच गुंडाचा हातात सोपवत आहेत...जी जी म्हणून जंगल राजची लक्षणे ऐकली होती ती प्रत्यक्षात येताना दिसताहेत. 

महाराष्ट्रातल्या किमान दोन पिढ्यांनी बाळासाहेब ठाकरेंचे विचार ऐकून आपली राजकीय मते बनविली आहेत. यापैकी बहुतांश लोक अजून हयात आहेत आणि बाळासाहेबांच्या मुलाच्या कारकिर्दीत त्यांच्याच विचाराची शकलं उडावीत, हे त्यांच्या मनाला आणखी घरे पाडणारी गोष्ट आहे. चार पाच दशके बाळासाहेबांनी जे 'विचाराचे सोने' दिले, ते असे मोडीत काढताना पाहून त्यांना जास्त वेदना होतात. उध्दव यांना टेकू देणाऱ्यांची कदाचित तीच इच्छा असावी. तरीही ज्या राज्यात साधूंच्या जीवाची खात्री नसते ते राज्य कधीही चांगले असू शकत नाही. आज नाही तरी अगदी अलीकडेपर्यंत शिवसेना हिंदुत्वाची जपमाळ ओढत होती. त्याच हिंदुत्वाचे दोन पूज्य व्यक्तिमत्व धर्ममाफियांच्या गुंडगिरीला बळी पडले आहेत. परोपकाराय सतां विभूतयः या न्यायाने ते काही बोलणार नाहीत, पण त्यांच्यावर श्रद्धा असणारे तेवढेच क्षमाशील असतील, असे नाही. त्यांच्यामधून कोणी करपत्री महाराज उभे करून घेऊ नका...किमान साधूंचे तरी श्राप घेऊ नका!

टल गया कूपमंडूकों का 'कुंभाभिषेकम'

हमारे देश में तमिलनाडू में तंजावुर बृहदेश्वर मंदिर भारत के सबसे पुराने मंदिरों में से एक माना जाता है। भोसले राजवंश सरफोजी राजे ने प्रसिद्ध बृहदेश्वर मंदिर में दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा शिलालेख उकेरा है। यह बृहदेश्वर मंदिर पहले चोल राजा ने बनवाया था। इसे राजाराजेश्वरम मंदिर या पेरुवुडैयार मंदिर भी कहा जाता है। कावेरी नदी के दक्षिणी तट पर स्थित यह मंदिर शिव को समर्पित है और द्रविड़ (दक्षिणी) वास्तुकला का अत्युत्तम उदाहरण है। इसे दक्षिण मेरू भी कहते है। तमिल राजा राजराजा चोल द्वारा ईसाई सन  1003 और 1010 के दौरान निर्मित इस मंदिर को यूनेस्को ने विश्व धरोहर स्थल के रूप में मान्यता दी है। इस मंदिर का महाकुंभाभिषेकम समारोह अत्यंत पवित्रमाना माना जाता है। तमिलनाडु के साथ-साथ देश भर के भक्तों के लिए इस आयोजन का बहुत महत्व है। यह समारोह इस वर्ष 6 फरवरी को है। लेकिन इसी समारोह को कुछ संकुचित लोगों की नज़र लगी और भाषा का बहाना बनाकर उसे खट्टा करने का प्रयास हुआ। सौभाग्य से मद्रास उच्च न्यायालय द्वारा विवेकपूर्ण भूमिका अपनाने के कारण यह मुद्दा आग पकड़ते-पकड़ते रह गया। एक मामूली विषय पर समाज गुटों में परिवर्तित होने का संकट टल गया।  

हिंदुओं के महान मंदिर तमिलनाडु की शान हैं (कुछ सबसे बड़े ईसाई चर्च भी तमिलनाडु में हैं )। द्रविड़ आंदोलन के नाम पर नास्तिकों ने चाहे जितना भी परेशान किया हो, आज भी जनमानस पर इन मंदिरों का प्रभाव कायम है। देश के अन्य हिस्सों की तरह ही तमिलनाडु के मंदिरों में भी पूजा-अर्चना संस्कृत में होती थी। लगभग छह - सात दशकों पहले उपजे हुए द्रविड़ आंदोलन की दृष्टि में संस्कृत उत्तर भारत और अंततः आर्यों की भाषा है। इसलिए, द्रविड़वादियों का हठ था, कि संस्कृत या हिंदी का सभी स्तरों पर सफाया कर दिया जाना चाहिए और मंदिरों को भी इसमें शामिल किया गया। राज्य में कई मंदिर, विशेष रूप से सरकारी नियंत्रणवाले मंदिर, इसकी चपेट में आए और तमिल वहाँ दैनिक पूजा की भाषा बनी। हालांकि तंजावुर मंदिर जैसे मंदिर अपवाद बने रहे और इसका कारण यह है, कि इन मंदिरों का एक लंबा इतिहास है।

राजराजा चोल 

स्वयं तंजावुर मंदिर का इतिहास, जैसा कि ऊपर कहा गया है, कम से कम 1000  वर्ष पुराना है। चोल, चेर और पांड्य इन तमिल राजाओं का इतिहास गौरवमयी रहा है। ये सभी राजा संस्कृत को उदार प्रश्रय देनेवाले थे, यह यहाँ महत्वपूर्ण है। उनके तमिल अस्तित्व को संस्कृत से निकटता के कारण कोई बाधा नहीं पहुंची। इसलिए, उनके द्वारा बनाए गए मंदिर में संस्कृत मंत्रपठन की परंपरा कायम रही। वही परंपरा तथाकथित द्रविड़वादियों को चुभ रही थी। इसलिए किसी वकील ने मद्रास उच्च न्यायालय में एक याचिका दायर कर मांग की कि तंजावुर के इस समारोह में केवल तमिल भाषा में ही मंत्रपठन हो। इस मामले पर उच्च न्यायालय ने पिछले सप्ताह निर्णय सुनाया। न्यायालय ने यह स्पष्ट किया कि महाकुंभाभिषेकम के समारोह के दौरान, तमिल और संस्कृत दोनों भाषाओं के मंत्र कहे जाएं।

इसमें आनंददायक बात यह है, कि इस अवसर पर भाषा का बहाना बनाकर एक समुदाय में अलगाव पैदा करने का प्रयास असफल तो हुआ ही, साथ ही आम जनता से भी इन प्रयासों को समर्थन नहीं मिला। राज्य में विरोधी डीएमके पार्टी ने पहले 'केवल तमिल' की मांग की थी। उन्हें वाको जैसे नेताओं का समर्थन प्राप्त हुआ। दूसरी ओर, सत्ताधारी अन्ना द्रमुक पार्टी ने दोनों भाषाओं में मंत्रोच्चारण करने के पक्ष में मत दिया।

अब न्यायालय के आदेश के बाद भी नाम तमिळर कट्चि पार्टी के नेता सीमान जैसों ने 'अपनी ही सही' करने का पैंतरा लिया। दोनों भाषाओं में मंत्रोच्चारण अगर होना हो तो भी पहले मंत्रोच्चारण तमिल में ही हो, यह मांग उन्होंने की। हालांकि उसको समर्थन नहीं मिला। विद्वानों और सामान्य भक्तों ने इस ओर संकेत किया, कि इससे पहले महाकुंभाभिषेकम समारोह पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री करुणानिधि के सत्ताकाल में (1997 में) हुआ था। उस अवसर पर इस मंदिर में वैदिक पंडितों की संस्कृत भाषा में मंत्रोच्चारण के साथ ही समारोह संपन्न हुआ था। करुणानिधि ने उसे रोका नहीं। चेन्नई मयिलाडुदुरै, रामेश्वरम, मदुरै  और कांचीपुरम जैसे प्रसिद्ध शिव मंदिरों में कुंभाभिषेकम संस्कृत भाषा में ही होता है। हिंदू परिवारों में भी जाप किया जाता है। इस पर कोई आपत्ति नहीं करता। पूजा और आरती के बाद तमिलनाडु में तिरुवासकम गाने की प्रथा है। यह स्तोत्र तमिल में ही।

परंपरावादियों की ओर से एक और तर्क रखा गया, कि तमिल भाषा के विकास का दावा करनेवाले सब लोग स्वयं बड़े हुए। दिनमलर नामक समाचारपत्र में प्रकाशित एक लेख में कहा है, कि मस्जिदों में अरबी में प्रार्थना होती है और चर्च में अंग्रेजी प्रार्थना होती है। वहां जाकर कहो, 'तमिल में उपासना करो'। यह कुंभ समारोह आगम शास्त्र के अनुसार होता है। इसमें पूजा कैसे हो और किस प्रकार की हो, इसका मार्गदर्शन है। मंदिरों में हजारों वर्षों से इसी के अनुसार पूजा की जाती है। एक बात हमें समझनी चाहिए, कि पूजा पद्धति और उपासना अलग-अलग हैं। दि. वे. चंद्रशेखर शिवाचार्यर नामक पंडित ने मत व्यक्त किया है, कि हम परमेश्वर की उपासना करते है वह किसी भी भाषा में हो सकती है। लेकिन पूजा पद्धति के कुछ नियम है और उनका पालन किया जाना चाहिए। उन्होंने यह जानकारी भी दी है, कि जिन लोग को मंदिर में तमिल में पूजा करना चाहते हैं उनके लिए पूजारी को तमिल में पूजा करवाने का नियम है। लेकिन 99% लोग तमिल में पूजा करने के लिए नहीं कहते हैं; वे संस्कृत की मांग करते है।

संस्कृत की ओर से मत रखनेवालों की एक और आपत्ति है, कि बृहदेश्वर मंदिर में तमिल को सम्मान मिलें इसके लिए कमर कसनेवाले सारे लोग नास्तिक है। तमिल के लिए मैदान में उतरनेवाले सारे लोग भगवान को नकारनेवाले हैं। लोग ईश्वर में विश्वास करते हैं और भाषा उनका अधिकार है। लेकिन इन दोनों को रौंदकर ये लोग अपनी ही सही करवाने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं। इस का मतलब है, कुछ नेता और प्रसिद्धी के लिए बेताब होनेवाले कुछ तमिल आंदोलक तिल का ताड़ बना रहे है। 

उच्च न्यायालय ने इस विवाद को चाय की प्याली में उभरा हुआ तूफान बना  दिया। लेकिन इससे एक और बात स्पष्ट होती है। वह है क्षेत्रीय सीमाओं को पार करने की संस्कृत की शक्ति। चोल राजराजा प्रथम वास्तव में सम्राट थे। उत्तरी भारत के कुछ हिस्सों, श्रीलंका, मालदीव और पूर्वी एशिया के कुछ हिस्सों पर उसने सन 985 और 1014 के बीच शासन किया। राजराजा चोल ने जब बृहदेश्वर मंदिर का निर्माण किया, तो उसका राज्य वर्तमान तमिलनाडु, केरल, आंध्र, कर्नाटक और ओडिशा तक फैला था। उसके पुत्र राजेंद्र चोल ने तो बंगाल में भी अपने साम्राज्य का विस्तार किया था। यानी यह राजा केवल तमिल लोगों पर नहीं बल्कि करोड़ों गैर – तमिल लोगों पर राज्य करता था। यह आश्चर्य की बात नहीं है कि इन सबसे संवाद करने के लिए चोल राजाओं को संस्कृत भाषा सही लगी! एक तरह से संस्कृत उनके लिए राष्ट्रीय भाषा थी और इसलिए उनके समय से ही इस मंदिर में संस्कृत मंत्रपठन जारी है। न्यायालय ने इस मामले का संज्ञान लिया और तमिल की गरिमा को ध्यान में रखते हुए दोनों भाषाओं में समारोह करने की अनुमति दी। इस बहाने कूपमंडूकों का कुंभाभिषेकम तो टल गया, इतना काफी है!

Rahul, the Saviour

The Bharatiya Janata Party is a lucky party. Whenever it is in dumps, a distinguished adversary comes to its rescue and makes matters so much easy for the saffron camp. Rahul's latest remarks have done the magic yet again for BJP and provided a perfect release valve for the party to duck some nagging questions that could have haunted it. 

The BJP was in a precarious situation after the drubbing it received in Jharkhand. This was third straight failure for the party after it romped home to a thumping majority to the power at centre just six months ago. The defeat came on the heels of heat generated by Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). There was unarguably a backlash against the CAA and a huge propaganda that succeeded pushing the ruling party in corner. Just as BJP had its back to the wall, came the 'masterstroke' by Gandhi scion Rahul.

With his yet another comment, completely idiotic and utterly misguided, Rahul Gandhi has managed to destruct the well-built narrative of secular camp. The focus of the debate will now shift from the issues of governance and policy to the ideology. The BJP couldn't ask for more as it, as well as its ideological powerhouse Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, are saddled firmly in their thought processes. The lacuna on this count is in the Congress camp. The main opposition party is oscillating between different principles - sometimes it is epitome of secularism and on another occasion, it is acute followers of Hinduism embarking, at times, on pilgrimage to Manasarovar. Thus, Congress under Rahul has failed in establishing any credentials for ideology and as such, become a laughing stock when he or his team members take pot-shots at an organization which has stood firmly on its principles for over nine decades. Notwithstanding Rahul's folly of targeting RSS for its uniform and especially chaddi (nicker), after the organization has abandoned it long ago, his jibe falls flat on face of itself. 

"Assam will not run by Nagpur," Rahul said with a manufactured bravado. “We (Congress) won’t allow BJP and RSS to attack Assam’s history, language and culture. Assam cannot be let to run from Nagpur by RSS. Assam will be run by the people of Assam, right from here,” he said, while addressing a gathering of Congress workers in Guwahati. 

 Little did he realize or heed to the obvious fact that Nagpur is in India, not somewhere else on earth. Even if the rulers of Assam draw inspiration from Nagpur, as they do, they a do not commit any wrong. When the earlier government of the state was run by Congress, where did it took dictation from? Italy? Funnily enough, even as Rahul decried BJP for implementing RSS' agenda and taking notes from Nagpur, he himself doesn’t gives any clear indication of the source of his ideological inspiration. He runs to unknown, undeclared and untraceable destinations a number of times in a year, sometimes coinciding with critical situations in the country, and comes invigorated to pursue his politics of comfort. Someone with such a bad record of ideological mooring should at least refrain from commenting on others' footings.

BJP Manages a Respite, But for How Long?

The Bharatiya Janata Party has managed to name a leader as the new chief minister of Goa. This must come as a big respite to the party still recovering from the loss of Manohar Parrikar. However, given the wafer thin majority the party enjoys in the state, it will be a herculean task for the party to continue in the saddle for long.

Pramod Sawant willl be the new CM of Goa, BJP signalled on Monday. Two MLAs from the BJP alliance partners will be made deputy chief ministers as part of the compromise reached with allies, according to the party sources.

Manohar Parrikar died Sunday after a prolonged illness and suffering from pancreas cancer. The tiny state of Goa witnessed a deadlock as the demise of Parrikar left a big void in the state politics. However, the party managed to break the ice by offering key allies their pound of flesh and accepting their demand for deputy CM's posts. Sawant, 45 years old,  is currently the Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly.

There are strong indications that the two would-be Dy CMs are Goa Forward Party chief Vijai Sardesai and MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar. "We have managed to convince the alliance partners and finalised the formula of two deputy chief ministers for the state, a senior BJP functionary told PTI.

Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari held marathon discussions with his party MLAs and alliance partner regional parties such as Maharastrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Goa Forward Party to choose the successor of Parrikar. He had told the reporters in Panaji that a decision would be announced soon. BJP national secretary B L Santosh is also helping him. Gadkari, along with BJP president Amit Shah, held a series of meetings with party MLAs and also of coalition partners to pick a new CM.
The BJP-led Goa government is supported by Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), Goa Forward Party (GFP), independents and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Following the demise of Manohar Parrikar, the strength of the Goa assembly reduced to 36 members. In the 40-member house, three seats had earlier fallen vacant following the resignation of Congress MLAs Dayanand Sopte and Subhash Shirodkar, and death of BJP MLA Francis D’Souza. By-polls to these three constituencies are scheduled alongside Lok Sabha elections on April 23rd. Currently, the BJP has 12 MLAs in the house, while the Congress has 14. The Congress has already staked claim for the formation of the government. The party leaders met Governor Mrudula Sinha and handed her letter of support. 

Thus, even if the BJP manages to install Sawant as CM, he will still face constant threat of being dismantled by opposition Congress and dissidents. Therefore, the drama will only get interesting in coming days.
